Dear Customer,
My journey with Ruskovilla began in the early 1990s, when I joined the company to help out on what was meant to be a temporary basis. Little did I know that it would become my life’s work. Over the years, I have had the privilege of sharing in Ruskovilla’s challenges, development and growth. My wife has also worked in our family business for almost as long, so the company and its many phases have become deeply familiar to us both. It has been a rewarding journey, driven by collaboration, humour and perseverance. Looking back on Ruskovilla’s 45-year history, what I feel above all is gratitude. I am grateful to our customers, who have valued natural materials, quality and durability for decades; to our partners, with whom we have helped preserve Finnish textile expertise; and especially to our employees, whose skill, commitment and care are the foundation of everything we do. Continuity has always been at the heart of Ruskovilla. We believe that the finest products are made from genuine natural materials by people who take pride in their craftsmanship. This is why we remain committed to manufacturing in Finland. Making our products close to home allows us to ensure their quality and take responsibility for the entire production process. Experience, precision and care can be seen in every seam and detail. Over the years, Ruskovilla products have become part of the everyday lives and shared memories of many customers. During this anniversary year, we want to celebrate our familiar classics while introducing something new alongside them – guided by the same principles as always: careful consideration, skilled craftsmanship and lasting quality. Our sincere thanks to everyone who has shared this 45-year journey with us. We look forward to continuing it together in the years ahead.

A NEW SHAPE OF WARMTH MEET OUR RELAXED WOOL FLEECE JACKET
Since 2017, our wool fleece jackets and accessories have become trusted favourites among many of our customers. And it is easy to see why: our wool fleece is wonderfully soft and warm, made from 100% organic merino wool. It is a microplastic-free alternative to conventional synthetic fleece. The collection now welcomes a new, relaxed-fit women’s jacket and a unisex hoodie in Dune. The new jacket features a loose cut, large open pockets, a longer hem and a generous collar. Its loose shape leaves plenty of space for layering, making it a versatile choice for changing seasons and everyday wear.
· 5 · ORGANIC WOOL FLEECE
Wool fleece is breathable, warm and so soft that it feels comfortable even against bare skin. In winter, it works perfectly as a mid-layer, while in milder weather it can be worn on its own – for outdoor activities, in a cool office or as cosy loungewear at home or at the cottage.

THE RUSKOVILLA STORY WARMTH FROM NATURAL FIBRES FOR 45 YEARS
· 10 ·
In the beginning, there were just a couple, a van and a desire to make the world a better place through natural fibres. From these beginnings, a family business was born in 1981. It later became the first company in Finland to bring clothing made from organic fibres to market. Today, Ruskovilla products are worn as far afield as Japan, Australia and North America.
Anneli Wahlsten and Mauno Mattsson in autumn 1981. The original logo was drawn by Mauno and remains in use today, with only minor updates.
IT ALL STARTED WITH WOOLLEN NAPPY PANTS “My husband Mauno Mattsson and I worked for an electronics company in Helsinki, but we were drawn to the peace and quiet of the countryside. In the late 1970s, we first came to Artjärvi and became interested in organic farming. Before long, we were running an organic berry farm here. My own children were already grown up, but I had often heard how difficult it was to find proper woollen nappy pants and baby clothes in Finland. That is where the idea began”, says Ruskovilla founder Anneli Wahlsten, now affectionately known as the company’s ‘granny’. With no previous experience of garment industry, the couple travelled to Sweden to learn the trade. They returned with a van full of second-hand machines and their heads full of ideas. The original logo, still in use today with minor updates, was drawn by Mauno on the window of their first shop in autumn 1981. BUILT ON COURAGE AND PASSION Our first products were woollen baby clothes, including nappy pants, rompers and shirts. Updated versions remain in the Ruskovilla collection today. The sweet silk bonnet has also been part of the collection from the very beginning and has become a true baby classic. Popular demand soon led to the collection being
expanded to include clothing for adults and children, and the first seamstress was hired. Other natural fibres, including silk, silk wool and organic cotton, were introduced in response to customer requests. A FAMILY BUSINESS FROM THE HEART The growing company moved several times before finding a permanent home in the old dairy building in Artjärvi in 1991. The building has since been extended as the business has grown. International customers soon discovered Ruskovilla, and today orders from our online shop are shipped around the world. “In the early 1990s, my son-in-law Ossi Näkki came to help during a busy period. He ended up staying and became managing director in 1999. That same year, we launched our first online shop alongside our mail order and retail operations. My daughter Leena Näkki is responsible for our products, so Ruskovilla truly is a family-run business”, Anneli explains. A CHAMPION OF FINNISH CRAFTSMANSHIP “I grew up on a farm, so the values that guide me in running Ruskovilla are living in harmony with nature, supporting Finnish manufacturing and getting things right the first time. Above all, we aim to use valuable materials as carefully and efficiently as possible."

“We are delighted to have customers whose families have worn Ruskovilla for several generations. We want people to be able to return years later and find the same familiar, high-quality products, while also discovering new materials and designs. Perhaps that is why the Ruskovilla story has continued for 45 years”, says Ossi Näkki. “Nearly all our products are designed and manufactured in Finland. We employ 20 people at our own sewing factory in Artjärvi and are looking for more skilled sewing professionals. In this way, we also want to help safeguard textile expertise in Finland”, Ossi continues.
3. We create practical, timeless garments for everyday life – many of which have already become classics. Our clothes are part of babies’ earliest moments and bring warmth to older generations. In between, they accompany people on mountain climbs, through Arctic conditions and beneath starry skies. This sense of continuity is what we want to preserve. For all of it, we are grateful. from 100% organic merino wool, our wool fleece is a microplastic-free alternative to conventional synthetic fleece. In 2018, we became the first company in the Nordic countries to launch organic silk, and the following year we transitioned to certified organic versions of all our natural-fibre materials. Ruskovilla has always taken a different approach to the textile industry: growth has never been an end in itself. Instead, our aim has always been to make the highest-quality, sustainably produced natural fibre underwear, because what we wear next to our skin matters. To preserve Finnish craftsmanship and maintain high quality, we do not offer the kinds of discounts typical of fast fashion. In doing so, we also encourage people to buy only what they need.
EVEN A SMALL BUSINESS CAN CHANGE THE WORLD
Over the years, Ruskovilla has been a true pioneer in the Finnish clothing industry. We were the first company in Finland – and often in the Nordic countries – to introduce clothing made from organic cotton, merino wool, wool fleece, silk and silk wool.
In 2017, we launched our first wool fleece jackets, which quickly became customer favourites. Made
The first products included merino wool nappy pants, a baby shirt and bonnets made from silk and silk wool. Slightly updated versions remain in the collection today.
The collection soon expanded to include products for children and adults, initially made only from undyed knitted fabrics. Coloured wool garments were introduced in 1996.
· 12 ·
This is the heart of Ruskovilla. More than twenty sewing professionals work in our own factory.
Our products are made from certified organic raw materials. The Key Flag symbol indicates that they are made in Finland.
Introduced in the 1980s, the outdoor shirt is one of our most popular products. It has been worn on mountain climbs, glacier crossings and countless hikes in local forests.

MADE FOR YOU MIX AND MATCH YOUR IDEAL BASE LAYERS
For the layer worn next to the skin, merino wool is an excellent choice, especially in winter. Its natural brilliance lies in its ability to adapt: it breathes when you perspire, helps regulate body temperature and keeps you warm even when damp. Wool rarely needs washing, as it does not retain odours and can often be refreshed simply by airing. Our 100% merino wool knit is smooth and opaque, so the tops can also be worn on their own – for everyday wear, outdoor activities and adventures.

OUR OUTDOOR BASE LAYERS ARE DESIGNED FOR CHALLENGING CONDITIONS
The natural technical properties of wool are second to none. The merino wool outdoor shirt and pants feature many useful details that have been tried and tested both in extreme conditions on polar ice caps and wilderness hikes. Wool is a naturally flame-resistant material, which is an added advantage especially when out in the wild. The base layer is also very well suited for more laid-back hiking.

Organic silk wool Metsä underwear and accessories contain the innovative Re-Connecting Nature ™ forest extract. Its diverse, safe, and beneficial natural microbes help to support and stimulate the immune system through skin contact. By wearing Metsä products you can experience the benefits of Finnish nature on your skin all year round, wherever you are. CLOTHING TO SUPPORT IMMUNITY METSÄ PRODUCTS CONTAIN BENEFICIAL FOREST MICROBES
Spending time in nature has many beneficial effects on our health, such as lowering our heart rate, reducing stress levels and calming our minds. Scientific research has also proven that regular contact with nature’s rich biodiversity is essential for our immune system to develop and function correctly. IMMUNITY IS BUILT AT AN EARLY AGE Modern life and urbanisation affect our possibilities for a regular connection with nature. The absence of natural environments, and especially the lack of physical contact with nature’s rich biodiversity, brings about new immune system-related problems. Research has shown that the more microbial agents children are exposed to early in life, the less likely they are to develop allergies and autoimmune diseases.
Allergies, asthma and autoimmune diseases such as type 1 diabetes are all conditions involving the immune system, and are among the world’s fastest-growing types of illnesses. Regular exposure to nature’s rich biodiversity helps maintain a healthy and normal immune system even in adulthood. BENEFITS OF NATURE ON YOUR SKIN Re-Connecting Nature™ extract is a patented Finnish innovation, developed by scientists at the Universities of Tampere and Helsinki. The extract contains a mix of safe, diverse and beneficial microbes, emulating the diversity of Finnish nature. It works through skin contact, enabling the microbes to stimulate and support the body’s immune system. We decided to add Re-Connecting Nature™ forest extract to our underwear

and accessories, and that is why we call them Metsä, the Finnish word for “Forest”.
In autumn 2024, Uute Scientific published a study on a new supporting treatment for atopic dermatitis based on natural microbial exposure. The results show that the Re-Connecting Nature™ microbial extract increased nature exposure, strengthened the skin’s protective barrier, and prevented irritation in atopic skin, especially as autumn turned into winter. Skin barrier defect is the main problem in atopy, so this barrier-strengthening effect is good news for people with atopic skin. enabling extensive and long-term exposure to nature’s beneficial microbes – also in urban environments and in winter. Metsä products are made of certified organic silk wool, which is suitable for year-round use, even for sensitive skin and babies. A good idea is to wear Metsä clothing at night, so you get the benefits of nature on your skin conveniently while you sleep. Studies show that the extract remains in knitted silk wool fabric for multiple washes. For optimal benefits, use Metsä products as much as possible and clean them primarily by airing. The textured knit gently massages the baby’s head, while the shaped front protects the forehead and the close-fitting sides cover the ears, helping to soften surrounding sounds. When first worn, simply gather the excess fabric at the crown with the ribbon to extend the bonnet’s period of use.

We manufacture products from three different types of natural fibres. When choosing the right size of silk wool clothing for adults especially, please remember that silk wool is more flexible than wool or silk. The knitted fabric used in our wool products shrinks slightly in the first wash. This has been allowed for in the sizing, so the garments may fit slightly loosely before washing. None of our products need to be washed before first use. 55 60 65 Chest circumference 54 57 60 64 68 72 76 Waist circumference 53 55 57 59 61 63 66 Hip circumference 58 60 64 68 72 76 80 Inside leg (crotch – floor) 35 41 47 53 59 65 70 Head circumference 50 51 52 53 54 55 55 Palm size from wrist to fingertips 12 12 14 14 16 16 16 Neck – wrist 39 43 47 51

TAKE CARE OF YOUR FAVOURITE CLOTHES AIR OFTEN – WASH INFREQUENTLY – PROTECT FROM MOTHS
Natural fibres are the most natural thing in the world. We use only the highest quality certified organic raw materials in our clothing and accessories: merino wool, silk and silk wool. Proper care ensures the longest possible useful life for the products.
FRESHEN BY AIRING Natural fibres, wool and silk in particular, have many self-cleaning properties. Airing is often all that is needed to freshen up the product and this allows longer washing intervals. After regular use, wool clothes should be washed, as washing helps the wool fibres recover and maintain their elasticity, thereby extending the useful life. Clothes should also be washed before being placed in storage for a longer period of time. FOLLOW THE WASHING INSTRUCTIONS Our wool and silk garments can be washed by hand or in a washing machine at 30°C with a hand or wool wash cycle. For wool fleece, we recommend a machine wash at 30°C on a hand-wash or wool cycle. After washing, reshape the garment while damp and dry it flat. We recommend the caring and ecological Sonett washing liquid for wool and silk, which contains olive oil and rapeseed oil. PROTECT AGAINST PESTS As our products are not treated with mothproofing chemicals, we recommend storing them in a tightly closed plastic bag when you are not using them daily or when you put the garments away in long-term storage. Red cedar rings and moth traps are a safe way to protect natural fibres.

EVERY PATCH COUNTS MATERIAL EFFICIENCY IN EVERYDAY PRACTICE
Making careful use of materials has been part of Ruskovilla’s work since the company was founded in 1981. We aim to use valuable fabrics as fully as possible and find practical uses for the offcuts created in production. This approach is part of our everyday work, from cutting and sewing to material reuse and repair.
CAREFUL PLANNING IN THE CUTTING ROOM Our cutting and sewing teams work in-house, so each stage of production can be planned carefully. In the cutting room, patterns are laid out to reduce the amount of fabric left over. Smaller pieces are used, for example, to make baby mittens and other small products. The same attention to material use continues throughout production. A NEW PURPOSE FOR OFFCUTS Offcuts that cannot be used in our own products continue their journey through a network of Finnish partners. They are sent to Dafecor in Turenki, where they are shredded and carded into wadding. Dafecor uses coloured offcuts in products such as absorbent mats. Wadding made from white wool and silk wool offcuts is delivered to Laatupeite in Tampere, and used in our wool-filled bedding. MATERIALS FOR MAKERS Some of our production materials are also available for arts and crafts. Wool fleece edge strips can be woven into rag rugs, while wool wadding and wool fleece strips are suitable for a range of craft projects. At Pirtin Kehräämö, a Finnish spinning mill, silk offcuts are carded and spun with Finnsheep wool into knitting yarn. The mill also produces our soft wool flocky yarn, while our sock-mending yarn is Pirkka yarn from Taito Pirkanmaa.
REPAIR FOR LONGER WEAR The best time to repair knitted fabric is when it begins to thin, before a hole has formed. Our range includes self-adhesive fabric patches made for us by the Finnish company FabPatch Oy from our certified organic silk wool. The stretchy patches make it easy to repair wool and silk wool garments without sewing. Oval wool fleece patches are suitable for reinforcing elbows and knees, while our mending thread kit includes a needle for repairing small holes in wool and silk wool garments. Patches and mending thread are available from our online shop.
