In his work as an environmental inspector for the city of Helsinki, the thirty year-old balances nature perspectives with the growing city’s other needs. “I spent my childhood playing in the forests of Helsinki and admiring the nature here. Urban nature and its wellbeing have always been extremely important to me, and its importance will only increase in the future as the city structure becomes dens er and the number of residents rises,” says Tuomas, explaining the significance of his work. Before working for the city of Helsin ki, Tuomas worked as an environmental consultant, as a researcher, and as a nature surveyor. “I was lucky enough to get to study the flora and swamp moss in fens in Central Lapland, and to birdwatch in the northern fells for my job.
