Keep your baby comfortably warm A baby who lies still or crawls on the floor feels the cold very differently from an active child or adult. When dressed in breathable natural fibres, babies are less likely to become uncomfortably overheated. A simple way to check is the back of the neck. It should feel warm, but not damp with sweat. Natural fibres feel gentle against the skin and provide balanced warmth and moisture control. Cotton is often seen as hygienic due to its ability to withstand high washing temperatures, but it is a relatively cool fibre and may not always provide enough warmth on its own. It is worth combining it with other fibres, such as merino wool, which, thanks to its naturally crimped structure, offers soft warmth and can be worn directly against the skin. In late autumn, winter and early spring, dressing your baby fully in wool is a good choice. In milder seasons, silk or silk wool layers worn next to the skin create a soft and warming base under other clothing. In summer, your baby may be comfortable wearing only silk or silk wool. It is also important to protect the parts of the body that lose heat easily. Warm socks, fold-over sleeves that cover the hands, and a bonnet help keep your baby comfortably warm from head to toe.
