Finnish babies go outside even in sub-zero temperatures

T I P : Due to poor circulation in the extremities, babies often have cold toes and fingers. You can tell whether your baby is dressed appropriately by checking the neck. If the baby’s neck is warm but not sweaty, the baby is dressed appropriately. A baby sleeping in a pram does not need windproof and waterproof overalls. Light overalls and a blanket or sleeping sack - and in very cold weather, both - are enough. Many parents also use a sheepskin to insulate against the cold bottom of the pram. A warm hat and mittens and booties made from organic wool fleece complete the outdoor outfit. Many foreigners are amazed at the Finnish way of putting babies to sleep outside, but it’s based on common sense: many babies sleep better in fresh air. After getting used to it, a newborn can spend 1-2 hours outside in mild sub-zero temperatures. A baby just under 6 months old can sleep outside for up to three hours in mild winter weather.
