Ruskovilla-Baby in Wool - 2018

Throughout pregnancy, the unborn baby is surrounded by liquid at a steady 37°C in the womb. After birth, the baby’s entire environ- ment changes. Suddenly he or she must adjust to dry air that is 20-22 degrees Celsius. It’s as if swapping from tropical heat to the cool north. That’s why special care should be taken to en- sure babies stay warm immediately after birth. The first clothes matter

Skin is a baby’s most important tool for sen- sing the outside world. Natural fibres which feel pleasant against the skin provide the baby with warmth and moisture protection. If a baby is dressed warmly enough, she or he will not waste energy on maintaining a basic level of warmth, and can instead use all of the energy from nutrition to grow and develop.

If you only want to use natural materials on your baby’s skin, begin with reusable cloth nappies underneath moisture-absorbing woollen nappy pants . More information about these can be found on pages 22-26. After the nappy combination, the baby is dressed in a shirt or body with rompers or long underpants and socks . These outfits should preferably be woollen for newborns. Learn more about Ruskovilla’s range of organic wool baby cloth- ing on pages 16 and 20.
